Elves are a sentient race of humanoids, living in temperate woodland and forest areas. They are defined by their relatively long lifespans. Pure elves can live for hundreds of years. Centuries of interbreeding with Humans, however has somewhat diminished the average lifespan for the common Elven person is about 200 years.

Elves have been aware of humanity since the dawn of the modern human, but choose not to interfere with their evolution and development. When humans first arrived in Elven lands, the human tendencies to destroy and conquer amongst themselves. were applied to another species for the first time. The various Elven tribes dominating the continent fought together against the invasive, yet less advanced humans. It was eventually seen, however, that the elves were no match for the humans' sheer numbers, and would be doomed to fail. A band of progressive elves, who would later become woodland elves, became sympathetic to humankind, and desired to integrate and live with humans peacefully. The woodland elves have great survival and hunting prowess, from centuries of life amongst the trees. A more conservative group of elves, completely disagreed with the woodland elves' stance on humans, and have isolated themselves deeply in forests, protected by magic, and no longer interact with woodland elves or humans at all. These closed elves have more developed magical abilities and a greater understanding of science.
Closed elves are no longer dominant on the continent, and have fallen to one last great tree-city, which has been lost to woodland elves and humans for a thousand years. Woodland elves and humans, coexisting over the centuries, have come forward as partners in the struggles of life in the world.
